Rob Bardini - New Perspectives (2010)

ARTIST`````Rob Bardini
ALBUM`````
New Perspectives EP
GENRE`````
Dub Techno
YEAR````````2010

What?
A good dubby-atmospheric techno EP.

Some Info
Roberto Bardini is a deep techno producer from Turin (ITA). He's amongst the few enlightened producer/djs who "declared independence" from the current minimal-techno mainstream. His musical approach is by all means deep, and through this he casts his vision of a more mature and alternative dancefloor.
Well known alongside labels such as Shyan Music and Plastic City, in 2007 starts a collaboration with Eclipsemusic and this is his second apparence named "New Perspectives EP" features a slow-motion deep house vibes especially "Through Together" amazing synth texture running on pads pattern in classic Rob's style deep as the ocean, music with soul and appropriate track for sunset landscapes and beach time dancing, the titletrack "New Perspective" is more techno oriented production with dub style chords and raw clipped bass, a new form of dub techno music better for dancefloor situations.

Pete Molinari - Virtual Landslide (2008)

Hi, I am Bob Pete Dylan Patsy Molinari Guthrie II
ARTIST`````Pete Molinari
ALBUM`````
Virtual Landslide
GENRE`````
Blues, Folk
YEAR````````2008

What?
A really, really good album from a really, really good artist. Most of the critics are bullshiting around calling him the Most Awesome Thing Since The Beginning Of Time - but hey - they get paid for that. I find him to very refreshing and pure in form. His songs are dominated with a powerful voice (based on Bob Dylan). The most intriguing thing is how similar he can be to early Dylan but it's obvious he is not "stealing" - he is very much obsessed and strongly influenced by Patsy Cline, Bob Dylan, Billie Holliday and John Coltrane. The most natural thing is not to be shy and continue the story. One thing most of the critics missed to point out is the importance of Molinari's singing + arrangements of straightforward, classic, raw blues - it's so clean it sounds literally like a 60's vinyl record -and that's why it sounds so fresh when released in a confusing mash-up time like the 2000's are.

Here's some short info:
Molinari’s voice takes a little getting used to, just like Dylan’s. But once you get over his nasally falsetto and take in the overall feel of the music, you’ll wonder how a young Maltese/Italian/Egyptian man from the U.K. can sound so much like an American folk singer from the 1960’s. The influences Molinari cites are from another time, ranging from Jack Kerouac to John Coltrane to Johnny Cash. And they all come through in his harmonica-laden acoustic tunes.

Review
From Boomkat

To say Pete Molinari is old school would be a great understatement. A Virtual Landslide is Molinari's second album, and was recorded at the all-analogue Toerag studios, famous for recording The White Stripes' Elephant LP among others, and you can certainly hear the vintage charm of the studio's pre-1960s equipment. From the classic boogie-woogie of 'I Came Out Of The Wilderness' to the jangling balladry of 'One Stolen Moment' the album sounds pretty darn delightful, but there's always a danger that the militantly retro production spills over into gimmickry, ultimately detracting from Molinari's writing. But with songs like 'There She Still Remains' on board, there's no such danger. The recording features some lyrical pedal steel playing from BJ Cole, and sounds a bit like something from Dylan's Nashville Skyline period, recalling a lonesome country blues that just doesn't get old. Highly recommended.

My favourite track "It Came Out of The Wilderness" is included on a compilation V.A. I'm Gonna Burn Yourself (2010) so you might want to get that also:)

Magma - Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh (1973)

Extraterrestrial gospel
ARTIST`````Magma
ALBUM`````
Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh
GENRE`````
Art Rock, Jazz-rock, Fusion, Psychedelic,
YEAR````````1973

WHO:
Led by classically trained drummer Christian Vander, the Paris-based Magma have been, in their way, perhaps the ultimate progressive rock group; while other artists have achieved greater commercial success and critical acclaim, Magma have typified the many ambitions and excesses of the genre that won them as many detractors as fans, even going so far as to invent their own lyrical and musical language in order to bring their unique vision to life.

Review
(by Sean from www.progreviews.com)

This album is Magma's great opus. Whether one prefers one of their other studio or live releases to it, there is no doubt that Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh is the most original, definitive Magma album around (although this reviewer personally prefers the Mekanik Kommandoh version!).

Featuring a cast of thousands including a choir, brass section, flute and tuned percussion, Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh marries the stripped-down throbbing drive of Zeuhl with orchestral pomposity and operatic aspirations. To those who jokingly describe Magma as Klingon Opera, this is the album that would come closest. The power and command with which Magma drives their themes home with increasingly intense repetition is the key to understanding what the band is all about.

Magma can't really be compared to other progressive rock performers (although many can be compared to them). The dark majesty recalls the classical music of Wagner and Orff, particularly parts of Carmina Burana, but that's about as close as it gets. To understand Magma, one must experience Magma. This album is their masterpiece, and while it might be daunting for the sympho-head or neo-head, (try their live material as an intro instead) it is essential for anyone wanting to find out what Zeuhl was and is all about.

WHAT?
Huh! I finally finished. I took me a really long time because I am really not even a 10% of an expert on the subject of early electro and electro-funk. At first I wanted to avoid the classics as much as possible but after spending hours listening to 1980's electro/first techno vinyls I noticed that all the classics are really the strongest points and most of the rarities and experimentations are crappy. I didn't include Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash or Shannon but I really couldn't avoid Juan Atkins because he is just perfectly detached. In fact almost all songs here were big underground hits at some point. + I noticed that many young "clubbers" today don't really know when techno started or which track is considered to be the first so I posted both of them. Of course - I am talking about 1981 Cybotron's glorious Alleys of Your Mind and A Number of Names Sharevari.
Also, two tracks from Boys Noize and Tobias Von Hofsten are examples of the continuing influence of the Roland TR-808 machine. One of the best less known tracks here is definitely Electric Boogie Boots Cheeky - a fantastic German electro-funk and the childish nerdy Jonzun Crew's classic Space Is The Place - one of the finest electro jams of it's generation.

I hope you enjoy this comp as much as I do.

Art Bears - 3 albums (1978 - 1981)

WHO?
A warm and wonderful avant-garde band - Art Bears were an Englishavant-rock group formed during the disassembly of Henry Cow in 1978 by three of its members, Chris Cutler(percussion, texts),Fred Frith (guitar, bass guitar, violin, keyboards) andDagmar Krause (vocals). The group released three studio albums between 1978 and 1981, and toured Europe in 1979.
Well, whatever you think after hearing this, you won't be able to say it ain't interesting.

Links:

Hopes & Fears (1978)

The first album from Dagmar Krause, Chris Cutler, and Fred Frith's post-Henry Cow project is one of the art rock masterpieces of the 1970s. It's as politically potent as Henry Cow's more strident work, but couched in more poetic and provocative terms. Opening with Bertolt Brecht's "On Suicide," with Krause declaiming the playwright's bitter lyrics in her semi-operatic style to the wheezing accompaniment of Frith's harmonium, the album continues in that uncompromising vein.

DOWNLOAD

Winter Songs (1978)

Finding distribution on the Residents' Ralph Records label, the Art Bears' second album consists of 12 songs of various tensions: rest vs. speed, improv vs. pulse, space vs. density, Dagmar Kraus's vocals vs. everyone else. As usual, Chris Cutler's lyrics tell political allegories through medieval-tinged stories: slaves, castles, and wheels of fortune (and industry) dominate. A guaranteed lease breaker if played often enough.

DOWNLOAD

The World As It Is Today (1981)

On The World As It Is Today and its predecessor, Winter Songs, the Art Bears move away from the long-form art rock of Henry Cow and get much, much more politically explicit: song titles like "The Song of the Dignity of Labour Under Capital" and "The Song of Investment Capital Overseas" almost sound like Monty Python gags today, but if any humor was intended it was clearly meant to be mordant. Frankly, the lyrics are so overwrought and portentous that it's hard to take them seriously. But the music is something else again.

A pack of mostly filthy blues/blue-rock songs (from delta classic to contemporary). To widen it up I added a few noise (post-kraut-whatnot) tracks (Adult., Aluk Todolo...), a gorgeous psychobilly track from Laika and the Cosmonauts and even an electronica 4x4 beat song from Whomadewho. A rather filthy and sometimes difficult sound in general. I just hope it sounds coherent at all hahaha. Anyways, some great artists here that you should explore more.

Note: Please if someone can identify track 17 I would be eternally grateful!

V.A. BLEEDING TECHNO SERIES VOL.02: GLIDE (2010)

ARTIST`````VARIOUS
ALBUM`````BLEEDING TECHNO SERIES VOL.02: GLIDE
GENRE`````
BALEARIC, HOUSE, PROGRESSIVE, DETROIT
YEAR````````2010

WHAT?
For some time now I wanted to share some great techno/house/electro tracks I enjoyed but they were either to "4x4 clubby" for my compilations or simply long beatport frenzy club mixes and did not fit at all. So I decided to start regularly releasing compilations of just kool danceable club sounds overlooking their genres or bpm's.

Since there was a really warm reaction to my Bleeding Techno Series Vol.01 I decided to pack another bunch of tracks I enjoyed these last months.
Here we have a selection of several excellent Balearic house-chill tracks for a cool and long warm-up. Naturally, I had to complicate it and enforce some more minimal (Tristesse), electro (Juno Ride) and even a pure commercial clubby progressive-tech-house (Step Out) to diversify the mix a bit. I hope you enjoy this selection and that DJ's find some romantic, moody tracks to spin.

As for some comments posted here about my chaotic combination of songs from different years (not being 100% trendy or something) I can only say - a good track is even better when you hear or discover it 5, 10, or 20 years after and it still sounds great. Also, there are thousands of "Best 2010 Summer House Hits Vol.458" on the web to feed a trendy mind with short-lived music. Accidentally, most of the songs on this comp are from 2009 so I guess I'm late for 6 months hehe.

Leave some feedback folks and enjoy the glide.

TRACKLIST:
01 Lullabies In The Dark - Code 7429b
02 Jacob Korn - Grosskariert (2009)
03 The Field - Leave It (2009)
04 Woolfy VS Projections - Return Of Starlight (Invisible Conga People Rmx 2009)
05 Fontän - Nightrider (2009)
06 Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Tristesse (2007)
07 Makossa And Megablast - Juno Ride (2009)
08 Joris Voorn - Decay (2007)
09 D-Nox and Beckers - Step Out (2007)
10 Damian Schwartz - In The Mood (2008)
