What?

A perfect, twisted and scary sequel to Bagheera Münchgstettner's True Horrors Vol.01.

This is a much more skilled, precise and organised selection of dark, cold synth tracks than on the previous comp. A few scattered oddities and classics give color to this emotional wasteland but overall - there is a prevailing feeling of doom.

A deep, dark mixture of unique and very memorable tracks (some very rare) that should be all listened as a whole. A definite standout is the Yabboq Penuel's 1.05 - I only wish it was twice as long.

This selection is definitely not for everybody as it takes away a lot of attention in it's uncompromising coldness and oddness - but that's why it's interesting and exotic at the same time.

This is truly one of the greatest electronic albums ever made and definitely the best place to start exploring the wonderful world of Conrad Schnitzler. Electric Garden is a masterpiece of atmospherics, reverberating drips in the canyons of your mind . Overloaded harmonisers and delays build to an orgasmic rush of nitrous oxide clangs that can seriously warp your mind.

M=Minimal continues their collaboration with electronic music legend Conrad Schnitzler, and presents after 30 years, the re-release of one of the key works from Conrad's large, adventurous back catalog. Ballet Statique is not only a musical milestone but also a highlight of music production. It was recorded in 1978 at the legendary Paragon Studio, Berlin by Tangerine Dream's Peter Baumann in the same period when other masterworks like Cluster's Großes Wasser and solo recordings by Roedelius and Asmus Tietchens were recorded. Ballet Statique was first released on the German Paragon label, under the original title Con (also issued on legendary French label Egg). This album is a must-have, and not only for fans of Emeralds and Oneohtrix Point Never.

Just when you thought this kind of tangled, floating, ambient wash -- sometimes with guitars, sometimes without -- couldn't get any better than specific parts of Susumu Yokota's Sakura and Grinning Cat, Colleen came along with Everyone Alive Wants Answers. Colleen is actually Cecile Schott, a Parisian who wrenches out cobwebbed melodies that are fully fleshed out as frequently as they are stunted and knotted. Her means aren't all that unique. Barbed glockenspiels, worn music boxes, humming keyboards, happenstance guitar melodies, soft-focus production -- all of that's been done before, right? What makes her stand out is that her songs seem meticulously stitched together while nearing the brink of collapse at the same time, almost all of the time.

Round these parts Moritz Von Oswald is the proverbial no-intro needer. Not only did his '90s output have an almost inestimable influence on a generation of dub techno heads, but his continued public presence as an electronic music impresario keeps this from being forgotten. How many times have you read a dub techno review that references Basic Channel? Here in jazz-band leader form the man heads up own trio together with Max Loderbauer of NSI and Sun Electric, and Sasu Ripatti, AKA Luomo, AKA Vladislav Delay.

The culmination of several years of live shows, Vertical Ascent is an utterly compelling and complex release, seamlessly fusing organic free-flow improvisation with the pristine electronic palette you expect from von Oswald. The four "Patterns" here follow a generally dub-like structure, where a relentless patter of midtempo percussion provides the propulsive counterpoint to heady, diaphonous atmospherics. The languid churn makes for workday ambiance, the mesmerizing fluid textures make for a repeat-listening delight.Since the focus is on exploring a restrained set of sonic possibilities, it's perhaps best to view the four tracks here as a group of variants rather than discrete compositions.

From the hills you can see the whole mess of it: the spare parts from cities past and future strewn unceremoniously into the basin to rot in the sun. Tony avenues rub with tired industrial areas–ghettos clustered around smokestacks. They are tired from the labor of dreaming that one could make an "honest living" doing "honest work." Foxes dream of well-intentioned cocaine pontifications. Some are going to hell. Some are always running; from Metro line to Metro line, off the bus and into traffic, looking for God knows what. All they know is that it's here in California. Here in this bathtub made from mountains and ocean. From here the ocean isn't the ocean. From here, the ocean is a wall to stop the onrush of bonebleached stucco and one-story porn superstores, the misconceived malls and the baked, glittering pavement of the freeways. If not for the ocean the city would go on forever.

I remember standing on the hills watching it burn. A patch of flames here. A Korean grocery store. An outsized smudgepot. A Bob's Big Boy. A whole bunch of people saying: Why the fuck not?

Though individual highlights abound on The Seduction of Silence, the album works best when taken as a whole, an endorsement of Hitchell's vision for an expertly paced and executed album that raises the bar on the dub techno game to stratospheric levels. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better winter warmer than this; remember it with warm thoughts when winter returns later this year, when it's time for year-end polls.
