Stanley Kubrick's The Shining OST (1980)

A KUBRICK MASTERPIECE. A MASTERPIECE SOUNDTRACK. MAY BE DIFFICULT TO LISTEN.
ARTIST`````````````VARIOUS
ALBUM`````````````THE SHINING
GENRE`````````````ELECTRONIC/CLASSIC
YEAR```````````````1980

MY VIEW:
For me, one of the most thrilling horror-thriller movies ever made. Soundtrack that follows the movie perfectly. Includes some selected audio vocal excerpts from the movie. Wendy Carlos is here again but only for the main title. Fierce, devastating themes that fully describe and follow the tension and perfection of Kubrick's filmmaking skills.

Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange OST (1972)

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT EARLY ELECTRONIC SOUNDTRACKS FOR ONE OF THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL MOVIES EVER.

MY VIEW:
You've all seen the masterpiece movie? Then listen to this masterpiece soundtrack performed by one of the early electronica most important figures - Wendy fucking Carlos on magnificient Moog synthesizers. Cyberpunk-futuristic-classical -ultra-violence social apocalypse. Yes - and watch the movie again. It works fine today.

ALBUM REVIEW:
from pitchfork
Wendy Carlos' music from "A Clockwork Orange" has the best effect any film music can have: when you hear it, you remember exactly when in the film it was playing, and you can definitely remember whether or not you
felt it all over again. I did with this disc. Although I haven't seen "A Clockwork Orange" in at least eight years, every creepy feeling came back to me. The milk bar, the rape, the Gene Kelly number, the prison, the torture... Jesus. I'm a happy guy....

DAVE GAHAN - HOURGLASS (2007)

DEPECHE MODE'S ICONIC SINGER DAVE GAHAN COMES BACK WITH HIS EAGERLY AWAITED SOLO ALBUM

ARTIST`````````````DAVE GAHAN
ALBUM`````````````HOURGLASS
GENRE`````````````ADULT ALTERNATIVE POP/ROCK
RELEASE``````````23 OCT 2007
YEAR```````````````2007

MY VIEW:
I really dont like this guy, his voice anymore and his face, oh damn I hate that face... But hell his new "not out yet" solo-side-project album is here so get it.

ALBUM REVIEW:
Dave Gahan makes a dynamic return on 22nd October with 'Hourglass' - his eagerly awaited second solo album. Best known as the iconic frontman of Depeche Mode, he continues his impressive career with a blazing new side-project, which follows his critically acclaimed solo debut 'Paper Monsters'.
Produced by Dave with Christian Eigner & Andrew Phillpott, both members of the Depeche Mode touring band, 'Hourglass' also reflects Gahan's growth as a songwriter. Initially showcased with 2003's 'Paper Monsters', he later wrote 3 stellar tracks for Depeche Mode's recent 2 million selling 'Playing The Angel' - 'I Want It All', 'Suffer Well' & 'Nothing's Impossible'.

Hourglass highlights include the gospel-tinged 'Saw Something', which kick-starts the album with stealth before effortlessly setting the tone for the other 9 tracks. "That was the catalyst that started the idea to write again," Dave recalls, adding that is was also "the first lyric, and the key to open the door to thinking, 'Okay, I can go here.'"
Other standout moments include the exhilarating, tour de force roar of 'Deeper and Deeper', the soaring epic first single 'Kingdom' (out on 8th October) and the addictive pull of 'Use You', where he scathingly lets loose his disgust with people, and specifically, himself. Meanwhile, on 'Down' - perhaps the most confessional song on the record - he confesses "I feel so old, down on the ground is where I'm bound to end up."

Sonically, the record cuts across a range of influences and styles with grace. Decidedly more electronic than his previous solo work, he has seamlessly swapped the guitar of 'Paper Monsters' for the synthesizer he epitomizes so well.

"It doesn't feel so much that the band is my identity anymore, although I owe everything to it. I'm starting to really feel that I have my own voice, and it's definitely coming out in the songs. For me, it's the best possible record I could make at this time. And it's gone well beyond what I expected of myself."

SHUT UP LITTLE MAN! FEAT. PETER AND RAYMOND (1993)

NOW THIS GEM IS SOME SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP SHIT. ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS UNDERGROUND AUDIO RECORDINGS OF ALL TIME. JUST READ THE INFO SO YOU DONT GET CONFUSED ABOUT THIS!!!!
ARTIST`````````````PETER AND RAYMOND
ALBUM`````````````SHUT UP LITTLE MAN!
GENRE`````````````AUDIO RECORDING
YEAR```````````````1993

MY VIEW:
Illegally recorded drunk and insane verbal and physical fights of two crazy old roomates? Now this you can call - "seriously successful underground project". A must have rarity.

ALBUM DESCRIPTION (YOU MUST READ THIS TO UNDERSTAND):
Resting uncomfortably in the phantom zone between comedy and tragedy, Shut Up, Little Man! documents the drunken, two-fisted battles between Raymond & Peter, a pair of aging war-veteran roommates living in a rundown San Francisco tenement house. The disc was recorded by the duo's neighbors, who -- after knocking on the door to complain about the constant late-night melees -- were told by Ray, "I'm perfectly willing to kill anyone that thinks they're tough. I was a killer before you were born, and I'll be a killer after you're dead." Yikes. Rattling off a constant litany of epithets, including perennial favorites like "fuckin' piece of shit," "cocksucker," and "queer," Raymond & Peter bicker like an old married couple, threatening to kill each other over the slightest offense; their laughter is even more chilling than their rants, with only physical assaults to break up their circular, never-ending debates. When Sartre wrote No Exit, he could only imagine the true depths of the locked-room existential nightmares Shut Up, Little Man! captures -- it's an experience like no other.

The first Shut Up, Little Man! compact disc was released in early 1993. A number of other volumes were issued later. The recordings quickly gained a cult following, and were adapted into comic books, zines, a theatrical production and the independent film Shut Yer Dirty Little Mouth.

The recordings found fame far beyond San Francisco. Lee reports that "I went to see (New York City-based) John Zorn, one of my favorite jazz composers, performing with his experimental game-playing ensemble, Cobra. The keyboard player had sampled Shut Up Little Man, and thus, throughout the evening -- amidst the saxophone squawks and grinding guitar breaks -- there would be sampled little blasts of: 'Shut your fuckin' mouth!' or 'I want to kill!'"

Raymond Huffman died in 1992 , he was repeatedly kicked by Tony while laying in bed, and soon died from the trauma. Peter died in 1996 of liver problems due to years of excessive drinking. Tony was placed into a mental institution and his current whereabouts are unknown.

The band DEVO had a side project, "The Wipeouters" and on their only album there is a track titled "Shut Up, Little Man" using many samples of Ray and Peter.

STARS OF THE LID - AVEC LAUDENUM (1999)

MY FAVOURITE ALBUM BY THIS LEGENDARY DRONE MINIMALIST DUO.
ARTIST`````````````STARS OF THE LID
ALBUM`````````````AVEC LAUDENUM

GENRE`````````````SPACE/INDIE ROCK/AMBIENT
YEAR```````````````1999

MY VIEW:
This is definetly my favourite Stars of the Lid album. Soft, minimalist pullsating waves of pure emotional energy. Sound that just puts a beautiful vibration into your living space. If you could live on a cloud above the city, this would be your album of choice.

ALBUM REVIEW:
Avec Laudenum moves at a glacier's pace and, slowly yet surely, calls to mind the glazed eye, vacant trance, and pure (temporary) euphoria of the heavy laudanum user. "The Atomium," a three-part work, takes all of 16 minutes to gradually build from a series of softened drones into the exquisite ambience of an orchestra lulling heaven itself to sleep, only to halt the reverie by (just as gradually) introducing ominous backmasked guitars. Of the other two pieces, "Dust Breeding" has much the same effect and feeling of transcendence, while "I Will Surround You" has slightly more of a Technicolor feel. Reportedly recorded by mail between SotL members Adam Wiltzie and Brian McBride, Avec Laudenum is a magnificent piece of minimalist ambience.

PLONE - FOR BEGGINNER PIANO (1999)

BEAUTIFUL CELEBRATION OF SUPER-CUTE VINTAGE SYNTHESIZERS OF THE 60'S MIXED WITH AIR-LIKE GLOOMY ATMOSPHERE. A PERFECT SOUNDTRACK FOR YOUR AUTUMN OCTOBER RAINY DAY.
ARTIST`````````````PLONE
ALBUM`````````````FOR BEGGINNER PIANO

GENRE`````````````INDIE ELECTRONIC/AMBIENT POP
YEAR```````````````1999

MY VIEW:
This band unfortunately published only this album but it is so complete that I dont know if they could ever achieve this coherent sound again. They are an insanely sane mixture of some of my favourite electronic bands such as Air, Mouse on Mars, Autechre, Stereolab and Add N (To X).

ALBUM REVIEW:
For Beginner Piano is an enjoyable album, especially for those interested in the history of the synthesizer and tape music ('60s pioneers Perrey & Kingsley are probably the best reference point). Though their attraction to vintage electronics places them in league with groups such as Add N (To X) and Stereolab, most of Plone's songs actually sound like they were recorded during the late '60s or early '70s -- the basslines are undoubtedly chunkier, and there's a bit more clutter to the productions, but the melodies are simplistic and in the forefront while the tempos rarely make it over 60 bpm. At times, Plone sounds reminiscent of Mouse on Mars or like a Spartan version of Air, but the general drift of the proceedings is much closer to Esquivel than Autechre.
