WHO?
A warm and wonderful avant-garde band - Art Bears were an Englishavant-rock group formed during the disassembly of Henry Cow in 1978 by three of its members, Chris Cutler(percussion, texts),Fred Frith (guitar, bass guitar, violin, keyboards) andDagmar Krause (vocals). The group released three studio albums between 1978 and 1981, and toured Europe in 1979. Well, whatever you think after hearing this, you won't be able to say it ain't interesting.

Hopes & Fears (1978)

The first album from Dagmar Krause, Chris Cutler, and Fred Frith's post-Henry Cow project is one of the art rock masterpieces of the 1970s. It's as politically potent as Henry Cow's more strident work, but couched in more poetic and provocative terms. Opening with Bertolt Brecht's "On Suicide," with Krause declaiming the playwright's bitter lyrics in her semi-operatic style to the wheezing accompaniment of Frith's harmonium, the album continues in that uncompromising vein.

Winter Songs (1978)

Finding distribution on the Residents' Ralph Records label, the Art Bears' second album consists of 12 songs of various tensions: rest vs. speed, improv vs. pulse, space vs. density, Dagmar Kraus's vocals vs. everyone else. As usual, Chris Cutler's lyrics tell political allegories through medieval-tinged stories: slaves, castles, and wheels of fortune (and industry) dominate. A guaranteed lease breaker if played often enough.

The World As It Is Today (1981)


On The World As It Is Today and its predecessor, Winter Songs, the Art Bears move away from the long-form art rock of Henry Cow and get much, much more politically explicit: song titles like "The Song of the Dignity of Labour Under Capital" and "The Song of Investment Capital Overseas" almost sound like Monty Python gags today, but if any humor was intended it was clearly meant to be mordant. Frankly, the lyrics are so overwrought and portentous that it's hard to take them seriously. But the music is something else again.

BLEEDING PANDA COMPILATION

WHAT?
A pack of mostly filthy blues/blue-rock songs (from delta classic to contemporary). To widen it up I added a few noise (post-kraut-whatnot) tracks (Adult., Aluk Todolo...), a gorgeous psychobilly track from Laika and the Cosmonauts and even an electronica 4x4 beat song from Whomadewho. A rather filthy and sometimes difficult sound in general. I just hope it sounds coherent at all hahaha. Anyways, some great artists here that you should explore more.

Note: Please if someone can identify track 17 I would be eternally grateful!

WHAT?
For some time now I wanted to share some great techno/house/electro tracks I enjoyed but they were either to "4x4 clubby" for my compilations or simply long beatport frenzy club mixes and did not fit at all. So I decided to start regularly releasing compilations of just kool danceable club sounds overlooking their genres or bpm's.

Since there was a really warm reaction to my Bleeding Techno Series Vol.01 I decided to pack another bunch of tracks I enjoyed these last months.
Here we have a selection of several excellent Balearic house-chill tracks for a cool and long warm-up. Naturally, I had to complicate it and enforce some more minimal (Tristesse), electro (Juno Ride) and even a pure commercial clubby progressive-tech-house (Step Out) to diversify the mix a bit. I hope you enjoy this selection and that DJ's find some romantic, moody tracks to spin.

As for some comments posted here about my chaotic combination of songs from different years (not being 100% trendy or something) I can only say - a good track is even better when you hear or discover it 5, 10, or 20 years after and it still sounds great. Also, there are thousands of "Best 2010 Summer House Hits Vol.458" on the web to feed a trendy mind with short-lived music. Accidentally, most of the songs on this comp are from 2009 so I guess I'm late for 6 months hehe.

How the hell didn't I hear this guy's records before is beyond me. He is a formidable cult figure in blues history and one of it's most original and powerful singers. When I heard just a first few screams from his huge mouth I immediately though - shit: Tom Waits had lots of fun listening to this... I am really not blues-oriented or informed so this is quit a find for me especially because I was into Tom Waits for 10 long years (!?). I heard a few Howlin' Wolf later hit songs but I never listened to a full album. It took me just a few clicks to find out that Tom Waits was directly influenced by this passionate loud-mouth killer.
This record was released 10 years before 1973 Tom Waits debut light-hearted but beautiful album "Closing Time" and 20 years before his revolutionary Swordfishtrombones (1983) where he fully released his gravelly voice. Wolf has been singing since the 1930's and played on one of the first electric guitars anyone had ever seen (that's how old his music is). Even the themes and some phrases are identical. The thing that struck me the most was that while listening Wolf's mostly 2,50 mins long songs I constantly had a feeling of purity, power and strength that Waits lost over time in his often over-done cabaret aesthetic. If you listen to the sharp guitar stabs and vocal beat of Spoonful, or the backing instrumentation and the shuffled beat of Who's Been Talkin'? you will simply hear Tom Waits cooking the same soup all over again.

I happen to love Tom Waits' music, "The Black Rider" in particular, but I have one big beef about him. Why is he always suing people for sounding like him when he himself sounds like Howlin' Wolf? I think it's safe to say that Waits has made more money suing people for musical plagiarism than he has from his truly impressive catalog of songs. You would think that The Continuum of Universal Fairness would dictate that this should be the other way around.

One of my favorite tracks from this album is The Red Rooster - a moronically simple song about a measly farm problem with a missing lazy rooster. This brilliant line - If you see my little red rooster, please drag him home (like he's a wasted drunkard) is something we could easily hear in Tom's live or recorded ramblings. People can easily get lost in the huge universe of Tom Waits discography (I did) and never look beyond it (or before it). This reminds me of a documentary on rock music of 1970's (can't remember the name) where Keith Richards said that pretty much every cult rock song or guitar solo was either a direct remake or was heavily based on a 50 year old blues song hahaha.

Anyways, this album is really a must-listen. Repost the damn thing.

WHO IS HE?

In the history of the blues, there has never been anyone quite like the Howlin' Wolf. Six foot three and close to 300 pounds in his salad days, the Wolf was the primal force of the music spun out to its ultimate conclusion. A Robert Johnson may have possessed more lyrical insight, a Muddy Waters more dignity, and a B.B. King certainly more technical expertise, but no one could match him for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits.

This could have been a much better album but some amazing tracks make up for the general lack of coherence.

A RATHER NERDY ALBUM REVIEW (by someone?):
With twenty new tracks Juan proves that the mixture of futuristic music and the spirit of the Sixties and the Krautrock area mustn’t end up in a tasteless disaster. You know it’s easy, pick up an old idea and reinterpret it new and the success comes automatically… But Juan lives a different idea; with his heads in the clouds and the heart on the ground he puts different areas, styles and ideas together in his very personal style. Surely this music sounds like Velvet Underground, 13th Floor Elevators or Jefferson Airplane, but Juan doesn’t copy this music he makes music with an own identity, with own ideas. No copy and paste music, this is intelligent song writing mixed with a futuristic view on the past. If you hear a song made by Juan you won’t compare it with the past, you will recognize it as Juan’s music. And besides all this musical comparisons and ideas there is a main aspect about “Fireplace” this is music with a message, an identity and this music that takes you far away to places you never seen before. Wonderful and bewitching! Moviedreamintelligentmusic… or do you have any other idea for a name for such an outstanding music?

WHY:
I forgot to upload this brilliant album ever since my Instrumetales compilation. Lots of links were deleted recently so I decided to help keep this album flowing.

ALBUM REVIEW
Bad Vugum's saga continues, this time with a release by Aavikko from Siilinjärvi, Finland. The group's previous record was a self-titled EP, interesting in itself because of its distribution: Apart from the hi-fi CD version, there was also a 7" version including the same songs but recorded on a lo-fi cassette recorder. Not only that, but the music itself was innovative: Aavikko was redolent of Add N to X's punkish qualities: acoustic drums and cheap keyboards playing songs strongly influenced by Russian folk music and Finnish synth-based themes. Derek! is a natural follow-up. The main concept is pretty much the same, but the production (if there is any) is better and the guys in Aavikko have a better idea of what they're doing. And although the sound quality is quite lo-fi, it represents Aavikko's punkish attitude and fits very well with the band's music. Melodies, which naturally are very important to Aavikko's music, are somehow naïve and childish, but then again it's intentional and the band itself possesses self-irony. Derek! is far from perfect; Aavikko still has a lot to learn and yet the band sounds innovative and new. Despite some limitations, Derek! is a great example of the notion that the most interesting music can be found on small record labels.

WHY:
Damn it took me a looong time to complete this one. I have no idea if I will be able to compile a bunch of destructive tracks that I loved this much. It was really hard because I just couldn't find enough non-trendy tracks that have enough power and style to fit together nicely. As usual, I tried to span genres and years but remain in the electronic domain the most. This 3rd Crashing compilation is darker than the humorous 2nd one. It gets really black at some moments actually. Leave some feedback - I'd like to hear your thoughts on this compilation.

Anyways, I want to thank everybody on a beautiful support I enjoyed for quite a while (even when I'm absent for several months). Few new comps and some sequels are coming soon so stay tuned.
